Growing up in Lebanon, every parents dream was for their children to be either a bank manager, engineer or a doctor.
I never saw myself fit to become any of them. Luckily when the time came, Haigazian University‘s business faculty dean provided, a link up with Dr Maria Frangieh in order to help get an internship. I was given an opportunity to work with search engine optimization (SEO) for websites. In this blog post aI am sharing with you my experience with SEO.
After the opportunity that was handed at Socialprise, I took part in optimizing a website’s article search engine performance. From that day, I discovered the importance of the SEO and its impact on the visibility of the website. Well, to be completely honest, at the start it felt a bit weird, with zero experience in this field and kind of scared of the unknown. But the guidance that was given and the friendly interface of YOAST SEO, I quickly began to excel in this field.
What I learned from my internship
My personal experience with SEO was very enlightening, specially learning more how website traffic works. One may think that large content, “such as flashy articles”, was the solution. But in reality, the writer has to create a certain level of content with specific wording in order to attract new traffic. What really matters is the quality of the content, not the quantity. One may write an article that has 1,000 words with lots of information, but He/She might not reach new customers. The most important part of an article is what it offers, and that part should be easy to grasp and connect to the reader. This would increase traffic, and attention to the website, and also would make optimization a lot more simple.
I also had the opportunity to experience working remotely with Socialprise. It was a firt for me. What I loved about it was that there was no specific worktime, but there were specific targets and deadlines to reach. This suits every individual that prefers working at night, like myself. Or an early-bird that enjoys working with a warm coffee in hand. I am able to confirm that with flexible time, came better performance, well at least that is my case.
All in all, this whole experience was an eye opener on how things have changed, and the fact that how little we know about what really matters to run a website. Not only that, but also the importance of remote work. And honestly, grateful for the opportunity that I was given.
